The Toybox
by Josh TaylorVIA reveals world's lowest-power x86 processor on world’s smallest board
Since nothing gets Toybox readers going quite like processor wars — I mean, hey, it’s the Crusades of computing — I thought I’d throw this little morsel into the ring. Arriving in the Toybox inbox this morning from Taipei is news that VIA Technologies has announced their VIA EPIA PX5000EG Pico-ITX board — the world’s smallest mass-production x86 board, they say.

- eMachines T3646 is cheap – and it shows
eMachines T3646 is one of the cheapest desktop available and unfortunately it shows. It offers some compelling performance, but basic capability is more important in budget systems, and we found this system came up short compared with others in its price range.

- RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 (Sprint) great messaging device Despite some spotty call quality, the RIM BlackBerry Curve 8330 for Sprint is a great messaging device with the bonus of EV-DO and integrated GPS. Plus, it offers more services than the Verizon BlackBerry Curve.

- Sony Bravia KDL-32M4000 too pricey? While it's blessed with attractive looks and a solid picture, the higher price of Sony's KDL-32M4000 will turn off many 32-inch LCD comparison shoppers.

- Canon PowerShot SD890 IS disappoints A solid compact snapshooter, the Canon PowerShot SD890 IS nevertheless disappoints when compared with its predecessors and line-mates.

- Sanyo Katana LX (Sprint) is decent
The Sanyo Katana LX is a decent entry-level camera phone for its price range.

- Velocity Micro Edge E2250 is a very fast midrange PC The Velocity Micro Edge E2250 is a very fast midrange PC, and it's one of the best PCs in its class for digital media editors. Gamers will find a strong foundation with some upgrade potential, but they can get better performance for the dollar elsewhere.

- Dell Crystal - 22 inch (wide-screen): Fine if you have budget For boardrooms and public spaces in need of a LCD conversation piece, the Dell Crystal might find a home. For those not operating on a bloated corporate budget, however, there are plenty of other 22-inch LCDs that cost a fraction of the cost.

- HP Pavilion dv2700t Special Edition is a heavy weight The 14-inch HP Pavilion dv2700t Special Edition packs plenty of extra features and a cool new paint job into a slightly too-heavy package with an uninspiring battery.

Olympus announces new E-520 midrange DSLR update
Olympus has finally announced the previously leaked E-520, an update to its well-regarded E-510. Like the entry-level E-420, the E-510 is really a minor update to its predecessor. Not surprisingly, updates include most of the new features the E-420 added over the E-410. Janice Chen

Aliph releases new Jawbone that is 50% smaller than the original
IMHO, one of the best Bluetooth headsets you can buy (after getting the swing of putting it on and off) is the Aliph Jawbone. Today the announced a new model that has several improvements that look like they actually listened to what consumer wanted changed. There should be one at my house and a review will be coming shortly. Matthew Miller
