The Good: The JVC KD-S100 is an innovative car stereo that significantly improves the quality of audio output from a range of sources thanks to its Bongiovi Acoustics signal processor. Along with its impressive software, the system has support for a broad range of digital audio formats including standard USB and SD card playback.
The Bad: While the JVC KD-S100 significantly sharpens midrange and high-end frequencies, its "Virtual Subwoofer" does not match the output of the real thing. Opaque pricing makes it difficult to evaluate the KD-S100 against component systems on a cost basis.
The Bottom Line: With its sophisticated digital processor and car-specific acoustic output, the JVC KD-S100 is an innovative addition to the aftermarket audio world. Its limited availability and vague pricing restrict its appeal, but new car owners may well see it as a worthwhile means of significantly improving their in-car audio.
