Ever since I bought a CD burner, my collection of homemade discs has grown quite a bit. I previously told you about my favorite tools for burning CDs. But to me the process doesn't end there. To finish the job, I like to create great-looking "cover art" for my CDs' jewel cases.

With a little tweaking and some creative printing, I could just use a standard paint program or image editor to create this artwork. But to avoid spending an entire afternoon on a single case, I use software designed solely for the purpose of creating CD case labels. Here are three of my favorites.

Acoustica CD Label Maker offers several preset design templates to fit the front and back of your jewel cases. Another nice touch: This app can check the Internet to find song titles, so you don't have to type them in yourself. (Shareware/Windows)

CD Box Labeler Pro offers a simple wizard for creating art for your jewel cases. But its real strength is its versatility--it gives you control over all aspects of your design. (Shareware/Windows)

SureThing CD Labeler has a ton of ready-made designs to help you create good-looking labels for your CDs. Because of the wide variety of high-quality templates, this one is particularly good for when you want to get the job done fast. (Shareware/Windows)

Whether you want to spruce up a CD you're giving as a gift, or are just tired of rummaging through blank cases looking for the CD you just burned, try one of these programs. They'll let you get the job done quick or tinker with the design as long as you want.
