My terrible memory for things like birthdays, anniversaries, and other important events has gotten me into trouble more than once.

I've tried a number of different methods for reminding myself, like putting sticky notes on my computer monitor or placing a small piece of tape on my watch. But the most effective tactics for me have been computer-based. Recently I wrote about reminder apps for the PC, which work well when I'm at my desk. But I've also found some that work on my PDA, which is what I need when I'm on the move.

With these programs, you set the dates and times you need to remember and then the app sounds an alarm or flashes a message on your PDA's screen when the important event draws near. Here are three of my favorites.

QuickReminder reminds you of birthdays, anniversaries and upcoming appointments. This one comes with additional databases of preset reminders for historically important dates, such as the attack on Pearl Harbor, and offers information about each event. (Shareware/Palm OS)

BugMe lets you quickly write out the task or event you need to remember, and then select a time to be reminded from a drop-down menu. It's great for recalling the little things that often slip your mind, like picking up milk on your way home or remembering to bring your ID card to work. (Shareware/Palm OS)

VBirthday GOLD Edition is a simple program for those who just need to remember important birthdays and anniversaries. It scans the anniversary and birthday events already in your Pocket PC's contact lists and displays reminders on your Today screen. (Shareware/Pocket PC)

It's nearly impossible to remember all the birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, and appointments in our busy lives. But if you try one of these programs for your PDA, I bet you won't forget the important ones.
