What's the best way to find information on any topic under the sun--and share that info with others? Internet newsgroups! Every day, countless people turn to newsgroups to discuss their interests (and, in some cases, obsessions).

If you want to get the most out of newsgroups, you need the right tools. Here are three of my favorites from ZDNet Downloads for taking part in discussions and downloading files.

Agent is the most powerful newsreader you can find. It lets you read threaded discussions, save messages on your PC, filter out spam, and download binary files. It also includes an e-mail client. (Shareware/Windows)

Newsbin Pro is for those who want to gather binary files, such as graphics and MP3s, from newsgroups. The program allows you download multiple files simultaneously, and, if you lose the connection, starts downloading again once you're back online. (Free/Windows)

Ozum is a newsreader made especially for grabbing, watching, and listening to multimedia files. The best feature: It lets you listen to or watch part of a file before downloading it, so that you know ahead of time whether it's worth the effort. (Shareware/Windows)

If you want to talk to others around the world about any topic imaginable--or download related files--try these tools. They make navigating newsgroups a whole lot easier.
