So your PC has a DVD player. Now what? Just hit "Play" and passively watch movies on your computer?

Hardly. You can get a lot more out of your PC's DVD player if you download some software from ZDNet Downloads. Here are three programs that automate frequent functions, let you enable undocumented features, and even turn your PC into a karaoke machine.

DVD AutoPlayer lets you automate certain DVD-player functions with macros. For example, you can create macros that make your DVD player skip the previews and go straight to the movie, delay the start of a movie, or automatically pick a particular language track. (Shareware/Windows)

SubViewer lets you create subtitles in a text file and then displays them while you watch DVDs. It also lets you play music at the same time, so you can use it to turn your PC into a karaoke machine. (Free/Windows)

DVD Genie lets you tweak your DVD settings and enable undocumented features. With it, you can play a DVD from a different region, use full-screen zoom, and more. (Free/Windows)

Don't settle for a passive DVD-watching experience. Use these programs to turn your PC into a true home entertainment system.
