If you need to keep track of multiple e-mail accounts while keeping a low profile, then ePrompter version 1.04 is definitely worth checking out--and not just because it's free. (Although "free" is strong encouragement.)

People who are new to the Internet will appreciate ePrompter for its non-intimidating look and feel. And if you're a severe Internet geek, you'll like it for its simple power and ability to stay out of your way.

BEFORE YOU RUN its great setup wizard, you should know how you connect to the Internet and have the following information at hand for each e-mail account: Address; the type of e-mail for each account (in other words, your e-mail account provider, such as AOL, Yahoo, or ZDNetOneBox); user names and passwords; and a descriptive name for each account. The program supports up to eight accounts.

Some convenient features and functions include the ability to have ePrompter display as a screensaver. You can set it to check all your e-mail accounts at your preferred time interval. The program also offers different options to notify you of new and unread e-mail. When it detects new e-mail, it can play a sound and rotate its system tray icon. The icon and the screensaver will also display the number of unread e-mails.

OTHER FEATURES: ePrompter offers password protection for each account. You can set it to display the e-mail headers only, and each e-mail account you set up has its own ePrompter Mailbox through which you can access your messages. Reading an e-mail will set it to be permanently removed from your account's POP server, which is done automatically during the next interval check for e-mail. To preserve e-mail you just read from being removed from the POP server, just highlight the message(s) and click on the Unread button.
