Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it a twister? OK, OK, I'm sorry. If you squint while this program is running and displayed on your monitor, it might resemble those things but it definitely gives you more.

What Turbo Browser 2001 v8.0 really is, is the jambalaya of file management programs. Click for more.

What we've been seeing more and more of lately is a convergence between program application types. Programs seem to be blending many diverse functions into one muscle-bound application, which is resulting in some serious power under one interface.

Turbo Browser 2001 v8.0 seems to want to give you everything you could possibly hope for. I believe our reviewer referred to it as "an extreme file management tool." Extreme is an appropriate description.

One of the more important new power features included in this version is the FTP Neighborhood feature. It offers transparent access to any number of FTP servers as an integrated part of the single Explorer- style folder tree list. It basically let's you work FTP servers as if they are folders with all the other features that TB2001 has to offer.

Its text editor has grown up to be an HTML editor. So TB2001 has moved from letting you passively manage files to actively author and edit files. This is an important new aspect of this program.

In addition to Large icon, Small icon, List and Detail views, this new release offers on-the-fly thumbnails. You can thumbnail text files, which will detail the first few lines of text. If you're not already used to this program, try it out one feature at a time and take your time. Remember, there's a lot under this one's hood and the excellent built in Help is but a click away.
