Choose the right path to Harmony: Logitech's latest remotes compared

In recent months, Logitech has rolled out its newest Harmony line of universal remotes. The new units are priced less than the company's last few remotes, and although they lack full-color screens, we prefer the newer models' sleeker slim-line style. These new remotes all employ Logitech's stellar PC-programming technology, which makes entering your various A/V devices a snap. Since all three run the same software, their prices and designs are the key factors when choosing your path to Harmony. The Logitech Harmony 520 is the cheapest of the bunch, but it has the lowest key count. The Logitech Harmony 550 is the most expensive, and its color will most likely match your home-entertainment system, but it has two fewer keys than the overall best pick, the Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote for Xbox 360. If you have an Xbox 360--you lucky jerk--the comparative ease of using the remote with the system combined with the manageable price tag makes it a no-brainer. If you're not a stickler for color schemes, it's by far the best choice of the three.

Review summary At less than $100, the sleekly designed Logitech Harmony 520 is a relative bargain among PC-programmable remotes--if you don't count the two other nearly identical Harmony models. The PC-programmable Logitech Harmony 550 universal remote control offers a sleek design, an impressive feature set, and a manageable price tag. A sleek design, an impressive feature set, and a manageable price tag make the Logitech Harmony Advanced Universal Remote an excellent choice for Xbox 360 owners.
