CNET GLOSSARY: Terms for the techie
bookmarklet
Small cross-platform JavaScript programs that extend the capabilities of Netscape and Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browsers. For example, there are bookmarklets for extracting data from a Web page, using enhanced search functions, and controlling how browser windows appear. These programs are contained within URLs and can be bookmarked for easy access. The first bookmarklets were created by Steve Kangas; for more information, see www.bookmarklets.com.
