CAR TECH: Car Tech glossary
Walk onto a new car lot today, and you can't throw your iPod without hitting a GPS receiver or a Bluetooth interface. In fact, some new cars sport up to three local area networks (LANs) as well as multiplexed electrical systems needed to support all of those electronic components. As cars become more technologically complex, working under the hood takes on new meaning. All your average Joe can handle nowadays is wiping off a large plastic cover with a damp cloth.

To help CNET users navigate all this new technology, we've created a glossary of 30 terms that relate to automotive technology, as well as a brief description of each of these technologies and their ultimate benefit to the consumer.
