Monitors that look good from behind

Most days, we pay attention to a monitor's screen: its brightness, contrast, rendering of colors and grayscales, and so on. But today, we're turning it around and giving you a selection of LCDs whose backsides are as attractive as their fronts. If an LCD has an unsightly back, with cords coming out of all the corners, it's not a monitor your business will want at the reception desk. These monitors take steps to cover their backs with removable plastic panels that hide the input ports and corral the wires. Oh, and besides that, their screens aren't bad, either.

Review summary With a fast pixel-response rate, the ViewSonic VX924 is a great LCD for gaming and watching DVDs, but it's not for the color-conscious. The Sony SDM-HS75P/S is an attractive, glossy 17-inch LCD that's better suited for movies and games than for serious work. The LG Flatron 1730S is a basic LCD whose covered backside makes it perfect for front-desk and other high-visibility areas.
