    CNET Review

    November 17, 2006

The Good: The Zune Marketplace offers standard jukebox functionality such as ripping and burning CDs and media management, and includes a store and the ZunePass subscription service; interface is minimal, functional, and aesthetically pleasing; includes customizable auto playlists; very good performance; a seamless relationship with Zune and fast transfers; streams media to Xbox 360; purchased tracks are 192kbps WMA files.

The Bad: Zune Marketplace will only work with Zune devices; no podcast directory; no dedicated radio section; store does not sell any video; not compatible with many common media formats like DivX, OGG, protected WMV, and even WMA DRM9.

The Bottom Line: The intuitive and aesthetically pleasing Zune Marketplace works well as an audio jukebox and Zune companion, but it's missing some key ingredients that would make it a one-stop shop.
